UAW President Shawn Fain Announcing on Facebook Live at 10 a.m. EDT Whether More Members Will Stand Up and Strike

DETROIT – UAW President Shawn Fain is meeting with members today on Facebook Live at 10 a.m. EDT to announce whether more workers will Stand Up and join the ongoing strike against Ford, General Motors and Stellantis. The UAW has said that it will continue to expand its unprecedented strike against all three automakers if they fail to make substantial progress toward a fair agreement.

The media is invited to view the livestream at the UAW’s Facebook page. It can also be viewed at the UAW’s YouTube Channel. (Media capturing the livestream have had more success with YouTube.)

Ford, GM and Stellantis made a quarter-trillion dollars in North American profits over the last decade. They made a combined $21 billion in total profits in just the first six months of this year. And yet all of them are still refusing to settle contracts that give workers a fair share of the record profits they’ve earned.

When the car companies’ contracts expired on Sept. 14, the UAW launched the Stand Up Strike and for the first time ever struck all of the Big Three at once. The Stand Up Strike is a new approach to striking. Instead of striking all plants all at once, select locals have been called on to “Stand Up” and walk out on strike. If the automakers fail to make progress in negotiations and bargain in good faith going forward, more locals will be called on to Stand Up and join the strike.
