UAW President Shawn Fain Holding Facebook Live at 2 p.m. EDT to Update Members on Status of Negotiations with the Big Three

DETROIT – UAW President Shawn Fain is going on Facebook Live at 2 p.m. EDT to update members on the status of negotiations with the Big Three.

The media is invited to view the livestream at the UAW’s Facebook page. It can also be viewed at the UAW’s YouTube Channel. (Media capturing the livestream have had more success with YouTube.)

Currently, 25,000 UAW members are on strike at Ford, General Motors and Stellantis. The Stand Up Strike against the Big Three began on Sept. 15 with a walkout against three assembly plants in Michigan, Missouri and Ohio. It has since grown to include five assembly plants and 38 parts distribution centers in 21 states.

The union’s national negotiators have been hard at work this week at all three tables. The UAW has said that it will continue to expand its strike if the automakers fail to make substantial progress toward a fair agreement.

Ford, GM and Stellantis made a quarter-trillion dollars in North American profits over the last decade. They made a combined $21 billion in total profits in just the first six months of this year. And yet all of them are still refusing to settle contracts that give workers a fair share of the record profits they’ve earned.

After the car companies’ contracts expired at 11:59 p.m. on Sept. 14, the UAW launched the Stand Up Strike. The Stand Up Strike is a new approach to striking. For the first time ever, the UAW struck all of the Big Three at once. Instead of striking all plants all at once, select locals have been called on to “Stand Up” and walk out on strike. If the automakers fail to make progress in negotiations, more locals will be called on to Stand Up and join the strike.
