UAW President Shawn Fain Announcing Strike Authorization Vote Results on Facebook Live Friday, 11 a.m. EST; Fain Joining Practice Pickets in Louisville, Ky., TODAY and Friday

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – UAW President Shawn Fain is in Louisville, Ky., Thursday and Friday as the union intensifies its campaign for strong contracts at the Big Three automakers.

• TODAY, THURSDAY, AUG. 24 at 5:15 p.m. EST, will join a practice picket at UAW Local 862 near Ford’s Kentucky Truck Plant. (Practice pickets are not work stoppages; no entrances will be obstructed, and workers will report to their shifts as usual.)

• ON FRIDAY, AUG. 25 at 11:00 a.m. EST, Fain will meet with UAW members on Facebook Live and announce the results of strike authorization votes by the union’s 150,000 members at Ford, General Motors and Stellantis. At 3:00 p.m. on Friday, Fain will join a practice picket near Ford’s Louisville Assembly Plant.

Fain’s visit to Louisville comes as 150,000 UAW members at the Big Three are intensifying their campaign for strong contracts that lift standards for autoworkers and all workers. Bargaining at three companies began in mid-July and the union’s contracts with the automakers expire at 11:59 p.m. on Sept. 14. Fain has called the date “a deadline, not a reference point.”

The UAW recently raised strike pay to $500 per week per member and has over $825 million in the union strike fund. The UAW is mounting an aggressive campaign for a strong contract, arguing that the automakers’ record profits should lead to record contracts.

The Big Three made $250 billion in North American profits between 2013 and 2022. They made $21 billion in total profits in just the first six months of this year.
