Transport for Wales is urging customers to plan ahead and check before travelling with the Wales and Borders network expected to be very busy this weekend.

Routes to popular coastal destinations such as Barry Island and Tenby will be particularly busy, with social distancing increasingly difficult on busy services.

Queuing systems will be in place and additional security and support teams will be at key stations to help manage the safety of travellers.

There are also likely to be a number of timetable changes, particularly on Sunday, so it is vital people check their journey before setting off.

A spokesperson for Transport for Wales said: “With the fine weather forecast for the beginning of the summer holidays we’re expecting our services to be very busy and people should take this into account when deciding to travel.

“Every day, we’re doing everything we can to provide as much capacity on board our trains as possible, ensuring every available carriage is in service. We will also have supplementary road transport in place where possible, to provide journey options for customers.

“As well as this, it’s vital people take responsibility for their journey, plan ahead, check the latest timetables before setting out and use our Capacity Checker tool to see which services are likely to be busy and always follow our travel safer advice. This includes wearing a face covering (unless exempt), respect our colleagues and other passengers, and cleaning your hands regularly.”
